Protecting Your Child's Vision

Childhood eye exams support healthy visual development and help detect problems like lazy eye or refractive errors early.

Healthy vision is vital for learning, coordination, and confidence in children. Many eye conditions, including amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus, and significant refractive errors, are easier to treat when identified early in childhood.

Watch for signs such as sitting very close to screens, squinting, covering one eye, headaches after reading, or poor performance at school. Children may not always realise their vision is abnormal.

Paediatric eye examinations assess visual acuity, eye alignment, focusing ability, and overall eye health. School vision checks are helpful but do not replace a full examination by an eye care professional.

Limit excessive screen time, encourage outdoor play, and ensure good lighting for reading and homework. If you have concerns, book a comprehensive eye exam — early support can make a lasting difference.
